wild card>noun 2. A person or thing whose qualities are uncertain.

In the world of Rude Awakenings, a wild card can take any shape or form. For simplicity purposes, I have broken wild cards down into three types: Good, Bad, and I Can Live With That.

What are wild cards?

Wild cards can be a temporary character that is only there to move the thread along, or it could be a force of nature, such as a storm. It all just depends on what type it is... and what I – or another staff member – come up with.

How do wild cards work?

Okay, let’s say that you post a thread... but no one’s replied! (Gasp)! I pm you and say, “Do you want a wild card?” You pm me back and say, “Yes.” Then, I roll a die. 1 and 3 = Good. 2 and 5 = Bad. 3 and 6 = I Can Live With That. Then, I – or another staff member – will come up with the most creative thing I can to fit that type. So, let’s say I roll a 3. Let’s also say your character is a daring creature looking for adventure. Sooooo, I – or another staff member – log into the Wild Card account, pop into your thread, and create an adventure for you... say... a foal is being attacked by a starved wolf and you have to save it? Now, for some, that would be a Bad or an I Can Live With That. Your wild card will depend on your personality... and the number rolled.

How else can I get a wild card?

If you suddenly run out of material in a thread and it becomes boring, you can request a wild card (with the consent of the others involved in the rp).

When can I not request a wild card?

If you have a mare up for claiming and no one claims her, I’m sorry, but you can not request a wild card to solve the problem. Or, if you are stealing a mare, or if a mare is sneaking away, you can not request a wild card. If you are challenging another, or in the middle of a battle, you can not request a wild card. If you have posted at the breeding board and no one will breed with you, you can not request a wild card.

What if I don’t want a wild card?

When I pm and ask you if you want a wild card, just say no.

What if I said yes and I don’t like the wild card I got?

Sorry, but once you have agreed to a wild card, you’ve got to stick with it.

Can I request a wild card?

Sure can! You can pm me – or another staff member – the link to the thread and we’ll get right on it!

Will a wild card ever kill my character?

Most definitely not! The only way a wild card could kill your character is if you request it kills you. Of course, this doesn’t mean some of the wild cards won’t be dangerous :D.

Do I have some say over what my wild card will be?

Well... you don’t have any say over the type. If you want to help decide what it will be (to reveal part of your character’s background, etc.) then tell me that when you request one, or when you agree to a wild card. Then, I will tell you the type and you’ll tell me what you want to happen. Then, it will happen... though I might throw in a few twists.
